GDC issues guidance on direct access

GDC issues guidance on direct access
The General Dental Council (GDC) has issued guidance on how direct access will affect Dental Care Professionals (DCPs), see: http://tinyurl.com/cbmq5bo The guidance note explains to registrants what will and will not change with direct access and sets out what the GDC expects from registrants who choose to practise in this way.

Hygienists and dental therapists will be able to carry out their full scope of practice except toothwhitening without needing a prescription from a dentist. Providing treatment in this way will be an option and those registrants who prefer to continue to provide treatment on prescription may do so. It deals also with training and indemnity, also information for patients. Many of the questions that have been asked are addressed in the guidance. Similar advice is given for dental nurses, orthodontic therapists, technicians and clinical dental technicians.
