The mydentist site in Tewkesbury High Street, in Gloucestershire which has 7,000 patients, will shut on March 31. The company has blamed getting less NHS work and having fewer patients for their decision. Patients ‘registered’ at the practice, where ten full-time jobs could be lost, will be offered treatment at mydentist practices in Cheltenham or Gloucester.

Denplan has announced that it is to rebrand as Simplyhealth Professionals. Out will go the ‘Apple’ logo, but care plans such as ‘Denplan Essentials’ will retain the name. Caroline Coleman, who took over as managing director from Stephen Gates recently said: “Our member dentists will continue to benefit from having access to the same great products and services.”
NHS England, the Government, and the BMA have reached agreement on changes to the GP contract in England. The new agreement includes an increased focus on some of the most vulnerable, with tailored annual reviews offered to frail pensioners, and an increase in the number of health checks for people with learning disabilities.
Salford dentist and professional boxer Arthif Daniel aka Dr Hitman is preparing for his next professional bout at Victoria Warehouse, Manchester on February 18. Arthif told a local paper that he had always dreamt of becoming a professional fighter. Although he elected to dedicate his younger years to study and fulfil his passion to become a dentist, he never fell out of love with the sport.

He speculates on what some of the consequences could mean for dentistry, ‘which looks as though it is the area of NHS care that is most heavily dependent on EU graduates’.
Alison Lockyer has been elected as Chair of the BDA’s Education, Ethics and the Dental Team (EEDT) Working Group, at a meeting of the BDA’s governing board, the Principal Executive Committee (PEC). The meeting also saw the re-election of Mick Armstrong as Chair of the PEC and Eddie Crouch as Vice-Chair.
