At GDPUK we pride ourselves on safeguarding to the best of our ability the personal information of our members. In particular we want you to know that we do not sell, rent or trade email lists with other companies and businesses for marketing purposes. In this Privacy Policy we’ve provided more detailed information on when and why we collect your personal information, how we use it, the limited conditions under which we may disclose it to others and how we keep it secure.
Types of data we collect
Website Cookies
The GDPUK website places cookies which are small data files on your computer or handheld device. This is standard practice for all websites.

Google Analytics
When someone visits www.gdpuk.com we use Google Analytics to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website by the use of Google Analytics. We also record web statistics on our server.
Membership Details & Email Preferences
As part of the registration process for our website, GDPUK will collect a range of information about potential members, usually via the website, but possibly by email, in person or at trade shows. This information will include:
- Name
- Job title
- Address of employment
- Phone number
- GDC number
- Email address
- IP address
- Username
We will not collect sensitive categories of Subject data without explicit consent.
We use this information in several ways: to confirm that the person registering is who they claim to be so qualify to register with the site; to make contact if we need to obtain or provide additional information; perhaps also to send an award for forum postings if you earn one.
We send forum and sponsor emails using our own bespoke software.
You can have the choice of digest, individual postings or no emails containing recent posts made to the forum. You can unsubscribe or adjust your preferences for mailings at any time by clicking the preferences link at the bottom of any of our emails or by logging on at the site and visiting the ‘Your Email Preferences’ page at www.gdpuk.com/emailprefs . The links are individual to you, please be aware that if you forward the emails without removing the subscription link then others would be able to alter your preferences without your consent.
Members that have been invited to receive trade emails via the Mailchimp service can alter their subscription using the links sent in each email.
As mentioned we don’t share email lists with other organisations and businesses. From time to time we do send emails on behalf of other reputable organisations whose products or services we think you might find interesting. We do not pass your email address or any other details on to these organisations. Again, you may choose whether or not you wish to receive these emails which provide the site with an income to keep membership free of cost.
Ticketing
If you purchase a ticket (or tickets) to attend GDPUK Conference or other events, we collect information which we use to confirm your attendance, keep you up to date with news about the conference and to provide you with CPD after the event.
Online payments are made through PayPal, we have no access to your financial details.
Third Parties
We may very occasionally share anonymised, encrypted personal information with other organisations. This is to target adverts to non-members to encourage them to join us and exclude current members from needlessly seeing those adverts.
If you decide to take advantage of any of GDPUK’s partner offers, for example Credit Card Merchant services, when you enter your details in the contact form these will be shared with the company in question so that they can get in touch with you.
These websites are owned and operated by third parties and they are responsible for processing personal data in accordance with their own privacy policies.
Access to your personal information
You are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that we hold.
