Bacteria lurking in the water lines at the dentist's office are tougher than we thought, according to a new paper published in Water Research. The study reveals that the disinfectants recommended by companies that manufacture the water lines don't actually shift all the bacteria in the lines, which means they're never completely clean.

The Local Government Association (LGA), representing more than 370 councils in England and Wales, is warning about dangerous DIY teeth whitening kits containing bleaching agents that massively exceed the maximum legal levels and are putting people's health at risk. The first patients were welcomed into the new Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry on March 31. Following completion of construction last month, a detailed plan has been implemented to ensure the smooth transition of both staff and equipment from the existing site to its new home in Edgbaston. Professor Phil Lumley, Head of the School of Dentistry said: “The facilities within the new building will be a state-of-the-art new home for our world-class teaching and research, as the next generation of dentists and dental specialists are trained here”.

Two consultant grade dental surgeons are facing erasure from the Dental Register following the performing of ‘Frankensteinian surgical treatment' at an NHS hospital.
In a Fitness to Practice hearing at the General Dental Council, Maxillofacial Surgeon Mr Albert Tatlock, 66, and Orthodontist Mr Kenneth Barlow, 59, are charged with gross professional misconduct following a two year-long investigation.
