The BDA Museum has provided objects for the Wellcome Collection’s exhibition this summer ‘Teeth’. It runs from 17 May 2018 – 16 September 2018, in London and ‘tells the tale of our pursuit of a pain-free mouth and the perfect smile’. This muesum is very close to Euston Station.

A man and his parents must pay £1.6m after selling teeth whitener containing 110 times the legal limit of hydrogen peroxide, at the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells, Powys, in 2013. They were sentenced in 2016 and the family has now appeared in Caernarfon Crown Court for a proceeds of crime hearing, which recovers the profits of a crime.

A report by Public Health England shows reductions in the sugar content of those products monitored by them of just 2%, which is less than half the Government’s target after one year and a tenth of the 20% per cent reduction it hopes to achieve by 2020. However sugar content in fizzy drinks targeted by the ‘sugar tax’ has fallen by an average of 11%.

The BDA has responded to the Department’s evaluation of the contract reform prototypes, saying that ‘half-measures risk sustainability of NHS dentistry’. GDPC Chair Henrik Overgaard-Nielsen said: “We cannot go on as we are. Policymakers must now ensure NHS patients are not left stuck between a rock and a hard place when they require dental care.”

The Department has published: Dental Contract Reform, Evaluation of the first year of prototyping 2016-2017. It shows some progress, with the clinical model well accepted by the profession. However further work needs to be done and adjustments made to the business model to improve the sustainability for practices. More practices should be recruited.

Plans from the GDC not to consult registrants on fee levels ever again are unacceptable, the BDA has told the regulator. BDA chair Mick Armstrong said: "There can be no justification for keeping the ARF at its current rate. We have paid for the GDCs mismanagement in previous years – it is now time for the regulator to live within its means.”

The National Audit Office (NAO) says in a new report that NHS England and Capita misunderstood the risks in outsourcing primary care support services resulting in services to 39,000 GPs, dentists, opticians and pharmacists that were a long way below an acceptable standard. Widespread failures are still being experienced by primary care practitioners.
