The British Dental Association (BDA) has reported that Professor Jimmy Steele gave a thought-provoking lecture on oral health care in a changing world at the BDJ/BDA's anniversary lecture in London on the 2 July. Addressing a full lecture theatre, he said that although there has been a profound reduction in the prevalence of tooth decay, major inequalities still exist across the UK.

A senior member of the government has warned that high earners should move fast before a tax break worth thousands of pounds a year is removed. The Times has reported that the Treasury is pushing for radical reform of tax relief on pension contributions, raising fears of a new assault on saving.

Cassandra Wright who operated from ‘Harley Street Allure’ in London, was found guilty of tooth whitening on two people at City of London Magistrates' Court. She was fined £4000 and ordered to pay compensation of £279 and £319 to the two victims, a victim surcharge of £120 and costs to the GDC of £6,000. This amounted to a total sum of £10,718.

More Scots than ever are registered with an NHS dentist according to data relased by the Scottish Government. Public Health Minister Maureen Watt welcomed the statistics which showed that 88 per cent of the Scottish population – 4.7 million people – are now registered. Children are more likely to be registered than adults, at 93 per cent compared to 87 per cent.
