Following last week’s General Election, the Prime Minister has announced a new Government team. The main changes involve filling posts left vacant by Lib-Dem MPs. Jeremy Hunt MP for South West Surrey continues as Secretary of State for Health although Lord Howe has left the team.
The initial published announcement from DH included Lord Howe as a Minister, but this was changed during the day on 13th May.
Alistair Burt MP for North East Bedfordshire and a veteran of the Major and Coalition Governments is the new Minister of State (Care and Support). This was formerly the portfolio of Norman Lamb the Lib-Dem MP.
Ben Gummer MP for Ipswich becomes Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, replacing fellow Suffolk MP Dr Dan Poulter. He is the son of former Cabinet Minister and MP John Gummer (now Lord Deben) and this is his first ministerial post.
Jane Ellison MP for Battersea, Balham and Wandsworth remains Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health, a post she has held since October 2013.
George Freeman, MP for Mid-Norfolk, has been appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, with part of his time in this Department, but his responsibilities are not known.
