Heraeus sells dental business
The German precious metals firm Heraeus is selling its dental business as platinum group metals fall out of favour. The business group will be acquired by Mitsui, a listed chemicals group, which says it intends to retain all employees of the business.

New materials and treatments have fundamentally changed the Heraeus Dental business in recent years, with platinum group metals not so heavily used in dental treatment as in the past. "In particular, the use of precious metals products, Heraeus' traditional core business, has dropped dramatically in dental medicine," the company said a statement announcing the sell-off.

Mitsui, which remains in profit, is well placed for future development. "We see very good opportunities for long-term development for Heraeus Dental in this new constellation. This was a crucial factor for us in the decision to sell," said Jan Rinnert, Heraeus Board of Management.
