GDC warns over communication methods

GDC warns over communication methods

Social media, newsletters and email are all valuable communications tools utilised by the GDC. Before each communication, the GDC gives careful consideration to how best to communicate with key stakeholders. For example the GDC, on occasion will use Facebook to reach out to patients who may have a complaint to make about their dental treatment, they can also be contacted through Twitter.

.

It’s important to note however, that in any communication issued by the GDC we will always provide a contact name and telephone number so that the recipient will know exactly why they’re being contacted and by whom. In addition, in order to be open and transparent, email addresses of some members of staff are also available on the GDC’s website.
Unfortunately, like any other publicly available information, the GDC cannot prevent these email addresses from being used inappropriately by people outside the organisation. A number of recent incidents have been brought to the GDC’s attention in which the organisation’s  name and/or the email addresses of staff members have been used by individuals outside the GDC without permission, to try to give the impression that the contact has come from the GDC, when it has not.
If a dental professional, patient or member of the public is ever uncertain of the validity of a comment or communication apparently made by the GDC they should call  0845 222 4141.
