Thin pickings for dentists in Birthday Honours

Two dental professionals were honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. Dr Selina Master was appointed MBE. She is national dental lead - Virgin Care and received the award for services to vulnerable people and improving oral health. Also made an MBE was Tony Griffin, dental technician, for services to dental technology.
Dr Selina Master qualified from Liverpool University in 1976 and the majority of her career has been spent working within the salaried dental services, as a clinician and as a clinical director, managing special care dental services. She is currently the national dental lead for Virgincare and continues to work clinically as a specialist in paediatric and special care dentistry.
Tony Griffin is the new chair of FGDP’s dental care professional advisory board. A former President of the Dental Technicians Association, Tony has been active for over 30 years in supporting training courses for the dental team. He played a key role in the development of a route to registration in clinical dental technology and was part of the team that developed the key skills in primary dental care assessment for DCPs.
