A Falmouth dentist came to the rescue of a bride’s mother, Frances Bowyer, who tripped on her garden path and damaged her four front teeth – the damage was so bad she looked like she had been in a “road traffic accident.” Dentist Philip Davies turned out at 10pm on the night before the wedding. He said: “I tried to save her smile for the big day.”
“I got a phone call about 10pm from Frances’ husband Steve,” said dentist Philip Davies. “They were at Treliske in A&E. They sent me a picture of her teeth. It looked awful. The poor lady had broken all the crowns on her four front teeth, leaving just the pegs. It looked like she had been in a road traffic accident it was that bad.” Mrs Bowyer, from St Just in Roseland, said: “I slipped on my slipper at 7pm, on the eve of my eldest daughter’s wedding. She’s the first of my children to get married. They told me they couldn’t help me at Treliske, and a receptionist gave me a rubber glove with some ice in it. I was distraught. I didn’t know what to do.”
Just before 11pm, Mr Davies drove from his home in Falmouth and opened his practice in Truro, the Richmond Dental Surgery, also known as Smile For Life. “I felt sorry for her,” he said. “I didn’t know whether I could help as I was on my own. The poor lady had a big day with her first daughter’s wedding, a once-in-a-lifetime situation,” said Mr Davies. “I tried to save her smile for the big day. We finished at midnight. They were grateful.”
