The Committee of Postgraduate Dental Deans and Directors (COPDEND) has announced that all new dental graduates who are eligible and need to complete dental foundation training to work in NHS primary dental care have now been offered a training place. 999 available posts have been filled across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with 33 extra places having been funded this year in England.
The British Dental Association (BDA) has welcomed this announcement. Chair of the BDA’s Education, Ethics and the Dental Team working group, Judith Husband, said: “We are thrilled that every UK dental graduate has secured a training place. This is fantastic news for young dentists and bodes well for the future of oral health in Britain. We’ve lobbied hard to ensure no graduate would be left without a place, but we will not rest on our laurels. Now we need to ensure that future dental graduates aren’t left facing another nerve-wracking wait. And with a new round of recruitment just around the corner 2014 must not go down in dental history as a ‘one-off’.”
The whole process starts again soon and final year students at Dental Schools have been asked to apply on line between 1st September and 22nd September 2014 if they want to enter dental foundation training when they graduate next year.
