The General Dental Council (GDC), has successfully prosecuted a Wirral-based man for unlawfully practising dentistry (namely tooth whitening). Wayne Roberts was found guilty at Wirral Magistrates' Court of three offences including unlawful use of the title 'Dental Technician'. He was fined £5,000 on each count, ordered to pay a £500 victim surcharge and full costs to the GDC of £3167.25.
Mr Roberts didn't attend court. The offences took place at Caldy Clinic, 161 Banks Road, West Kirby, Wirral, Merseyside, CH48 3HU and Caldy Clinic, 49 Rodney Street, Liverpool, L1 9EW. Mr Roberts is linked to the provision of illegal tooth whitening using the 'Megawhite' brand of products.
The website of Caldy Clinic’s Wirral practice says the company is “built on the principles of providing a quality driven, reliable service”. It also assures customers that “our clinic members are highly qualified in their individual fields of expertise with many years of experience between them, guaranteeing that ALL consultations and treatments offered at our facility are to the highest professional standard.”
The clinic website also says: 'We distribute legal self administered whitening products. All our teeth whitening products fall under the EU Cosmetics Directive'. They are a 'wholesale distributor of NICE and WHITE and MEGAWHITE self administered products.
