LDCs call for action on GDP contract and GDC

A group of Local Dental Committees (LDCs) is calling for a debate on two separate issues including new ideas on reform of the GDP contract. Their proposals for reform have been worked up into a solid proposal, which they believe could accelerate the movement for change. They are also calling for a Special Conference, in relation to the GDC and the regulation of the profession, which must be arranged if 20 or more LDCs call for it.

The LDCs believe that progress on contract reform has ground to a halt. But in the meantime GDPs are having to work under a flawed UDA system. This will continue for some years while new pilots are set up to test the whole contract.  The early drafts of the documents were produced by a small group of local practitioners working with the LDC chairs of Hull and East Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and South Humber LDC's under the chairmanship of the Chair of the Area LDN (Richard Berry, Ross Paton, Michelle Bates, Chris Groombridge, Colin Langley, Simon Hearnshaw and David Ward).

Drafts are being sent to trusted colleagues who we trust to give us sound feedback and opinion. These include Ian Gordon, Richard Allott, Kenny Hume, Roger Hollins, Paul Howlett , Mark Green, Alister Weightman, Ian Wilson, Sanjay Gautam, Steve Hnatyszyn to mention a few, the list is long.

Chris Groombridge, who is working with the team to get these ideas and a special conference off the ground, told GDPUK: “There are two separate matters we wish to raise with the dental profession. The first is the possibility of a proposal for the alternative dental contract reform, which is well thought out and has the right support. We wish for a debate on this issue within the profession. The second matter is the ongoing situation with the GDC and how the profession is regulated. My LDC colleagues and I wish to call a special LDC conference on the matter. We believe the dental profession must keep its unity and move towards change to secure its long term future.”
