The BDA’s General Dental Practice Committee (GDPC) at its last meeting debated changes to the GDP contract. Chair John Milne updated on discussions with the Department of Health on progress towards contract prototypes. The committee also welcomed the Alternative Contract Reform (ACR) input from LDCs into the debate on contractual change.
The GDPC recognised that many of the ACR proposals were consistent with its own thinking on contract reform, but the committee also expressed concern about some aspects of the ACR proposals.
John Milne, Chair of the BDA’s General Dental Practice Committee, said: “We welcome the Alternative Contract Reform contribution to the debate on a flawed system that has blighted the profession since 2006. The case for change is now irresistible. We will ensure that these ideas are considered in our on-going discussions with government as we work to forge a workable alternative that the profession can unite around. We have an historic opportunity here to turn the page on activity targets and put prevention at the heart of dentistry. And the GDPC is determined to get it right on behalf of the profession.”
