There will be a record breaking number of candidates in the forthcoming election to the BDA’s Principal Executive Committee (PEC). A total of 50 members are now standing, drawn from the whole spectrum of the dental profession. Chief Executive Peter Ward said: “We have been bowled over by the sheer number of members who have put themselves forward for our forthcoming elections”.
With 44 candidates contesting a single UK-wide seat, the BDA has welcomed the real choice awaiting its voters as they decide on the team to take the BDA into 2015. Five constituency seats are up for grabs and will each field several candidates.

Peter Ward continued: “It’s not every day the British Dental Association breaks a record, but this is one that demonstrates an enormous level of interest in steering the profession to a better future. At the BDA our policies, our campaigns and our priorities are debated not dictated, and our members are seeing an organisation making a difference. This election is their chance to be at the heart of it, to join the team that will lead us in the fight for secure pay and conditions, fair fees and decent regulation.
“Our members now have a hard task ahead of them. They will have a real choice from an impressive range of talents that are lining up to lead the BDA and shape the future of the profession. I would like to wish all our candidates the very best of luck.”
Ballot papers will be sent out mid-November with members having a month to cast their vote. Results will be declared before Christmas.
