King's dental graduate comes out top

Kings Dental Institute London has announced that Francesca Laxton, who recently completed her BDS undergraduate programme, Class of 2015, has won the highly prestigious University of London Gold Medal Viva for Dentistry. The medal and a cheque for £500 is awarded annually to the student who most distinguishes him, or herself, in a special series of oral exams conducted by four external examiners.
“To find out on results day that I had been nominated to take part in the University of London Gold Medal Viva’s made an already special day, even better. I was very flattered to even be involved in the competition” said Francesca. “I could not have been more delighted when I was informed that I had won the medal. This accolade is the perfect way to end my undergraduate studies and is an achievement I will never forget. I felt especially proud to win it for King's College London after a fantastic 5 years at the Dental Institute and 8 years at King's altogether, including my BSc.”
Dental Institute Associate Dean (Education), Professor Mark Woolford said: “The University of London Gold medal is the most prestigious prize available to our students, highlighting the best graduating-dentist in London. It is a source of great pride when one of our students is successful and Francesca is to be very warmly congratulated on this achievement after five years of very hard work.”
