After challenging NHS Area Teams’ refusal to reimburse business (non-domestic) rates to practices who paid in instalments, the BDA has now received confirmation from NHS England that it agrees with the Association’s interpretation of the legislation and many of these practices are, in fact, entitled to reimbursement.
Initially many NHS practices who had paid their rates by instalments but applied for a single payment reimbursement were told that their application was made too late. However after several months of challenges from the BDA, NHS England has accepted the BDA’s interpretation of the relevant legislation.
NHS England has now confirmed that it will cascade information about the correct interpretation of the legislation to Dental Commissioning and Finance colleagues in regional and local teams, and to the Business Services Authority.
Dentists with outstanding payments as a result of disputed applications for reimbursement should receive confirmation that they will receive payment shortly, failing which they should contact their Area Team to prompt a review of their application.
