GDC decides to retain high retention fee

At a special meeting held on November 23 to consider the Annual Retention Fee (ARF) for 2016, the General Dental Council (GDC) decided to retain their ARF for dentists at £890. This followed a consultation which recommended that the ARF for 2016 remained the same as in 2015: £890 for dentists and £116 for dental care professionals.

The Council was offered two choices to vote upon, either to retain the present level of £890 for dental registrants, or to reduce this to £840.

The GDC is assuming complaints will rise from 3148 in 2015 to 3589 in 2016. The debate centred on whether to make a surplus and and add to reserves at the £890 level, or aim for a break even position with the registration fee set at £840.

Therefore the Council has voted on buiding reserves by £2million, from the pockets of its' registrants.
