Retired Southampton dentist, Nigel Charlton and his wife Cynthia, were killed in a recent helicopter crash in New Zealand. They were on board when it came down over Fox Glacier on South Island, killing all seven on the flight. Their family have said they are heartbroken and the pair were very adventurous when it came to travel. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Dental Committee have paid tribute to the couple.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Dental Committee have paid tribute to local dentist Nigel Charlton and his wife Cynthia.
‘This tragic accident in New Zealand is very sad and distressing news for all the families concerned and for the colleagues and friends of Nigel and Cynthia (Helen) Charlton who were intrepid travellers.
‘Professionally Nigel was devoted to his patients and very successfully ran the Totton Private Dental Practice for many years before his practice became a new SCA Trafalgar NHS Dental Practice in 2011. Nigel was very much involved in local NHS dental representation and he served for a time as Chairman of the Southampton and South West Hampshire Local Dental Committee (S&SWHants LDC) and he Chaired some of the joint Hampshire LDCs' Executive Committee. Nigel was always generously happy to give of his time to support, listen to and advise new dentists in the Southampton area and I very much enjoyed working with him at the start of the new millennium as we merged the existing LDCs in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
‘Nigel was a dental professional with high ethical values and dedicated to the wellbeing of his patients and staff. They will be very sadly missed and our hearts go out to their friends and family at this very sad time.
