Four dentists honoured in New Year list

The New Year Honours list was published on December 31. Four dentists are to be honoured by HM The Queen.
Margie Taylor, Chief Dental Officer for Scotland, is appointed CBE.
Jane Davies-Slowik Associate Dental Dean, Health Education England, West Midlands and Special Care Dentist, Wolverhampton NHS is appointed MBE.
Eric Rooney Consultant in Dental Public Health, Public Health England and recently appointed Deputy Chief Dental Officer England is also appointed MBE.
Ashley Lupin from Canterbury Kent has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for humanitarian services to Medical Training in Uganda.
Margie Taylor MSc MBA FDSRCSEd FDSRCPS(Glasg) FFGDP(UK) has been Chief Dental Officer for Scotland since May 2007. On her appointment the BDJ reported: ‘Margie Taylor has extensive experience in dentistry and is currently Consultant in Dental Public Health at NHS Lanarkshire. Before joining NHS Lanarkshire in 1994, she worked in Fife and Lothian as Chief Administrative Dental Officer and in clinical dentistry, respectively.’
Jane Davies-Slowik BDS, DDPHRCS, MCDH, PGCert.Ed is the Associate Dental Dean for Dental Team Education and Performance Development at Health Education West Midlands where she is responsible for dental team education and development and supports dentists in difficulty. She is a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. Jane is an examiner for the Diploma in Special Care dentistry for the Royal College of Surgeons, England. She gained her postgraduate certificate in Medical Education with distinction in 2010.
Eric Rooney DDPH RCS MSc BDS qualified in 1983 from the University of Dundee and joined NHS England recently in November, coming from Public Health England where he is a consultant in dental public health in the north west. He was a member of Professor Jimmy Steele’s 2009 Review and has been closely involved with the contract pilots.
Also there are two people who have served as health ministers and who are honoured:
The Rt Hon Rosie Winterton, MP becomes a Dame (DBE). She was responsible for dentistry in the early 2000s.
Professor the Lord Darzi, surgeon, is admitted to the Order of Merit (OM).
