GDP earnings fall in Northern Ireland 2014/15

The taxable income of all GDPs in Northern Ireland decreased in 2014/15 was £70,500, a 1.4% decrease on their 2013/14 taxable income of £71,400. GDPs in Northern Ireland worked an average of 37.1 hours a week, with principals working 42.7 and associates 33.5 hours.

Principal Dentists had higher gross earnings, expenses and taxable income than Associate Dentists in 2014/15.
For Principal Dentists
In 2014/15 average taxable income from Health Service and private dentistry was £111,700 compared to £112,500 in 2013/14, a 0.7 per cent decrease.

Average total expenses from Health Service and private dentistry were £217,000 compared to £223,100 in 2013/14.
For Associate Dentists
In 2014/15 average taxable income from Health Service and private dentistry was £54,000 compared to £54,200 in 2013/14, a 0.2 per cent decrease.
Average gross earnings from Health Service and private dentistry were £90,200 compared to £89,700 in 2013/14.
Average total expenses from Health Service and private dentistry were £36,100 compared to £35,500 in 2013/14.
Working hours
Overall, GDPs in Northern Ireland (full and part-time) worked an average of 37.1 hours per week in dentistry.

- Overall, 72.4 percent of time was spent on Health Service dental services with the remaining 27.6 per cent accounted for by private dentistry
Dentists reported that their time spent on dentistry was split by 77.3 per cent on clinical work and 22.7 per cent on non-clinical work (which include administrative and management duties). Principal Dentists reported spending 70.3 per cent of their time on clinical work, compared to 83.0 per cent reported by Associate Dentists.
