Moyes to head Gambling Commission

Culture Secretary Karen Bradley MP has appointed Bill Moyes as the new Chair of the Gambling Commision for a term of five years, commencing in September 2016. Bill Moyes also serves as Chair of the General Dental Council, which regulates dental professionals in the UK.

Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Karen Bradley said: “I am delighted Bill Moyes is taking up the position as Chair of the Gambling Commission. He has a wealth of experience across the public, private and voluntary sectors, which will serve him well at the Gambling Commission.”

Moyes has previously held positions as Director General and Executive Director of British Retail Consortium, and held non-executive directorships with the Legal Services Board, the Priory Hospital Group and the Office of Fair Trading. His earlier career was in government and the banking industry, and his pro bono roles include the Chairmanship of the Board of Directors of St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh, Scotland’s leading specialist music school. The appointment was made by Culture Secretary Karen Bradley, with the approval of the Prime Minister.

The post is remunerated at £55,000 per annum. The appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. It is a requirement of the Code that political activity by those appointed is declared. Bill Moyes has declared no such political activity.
