Over 1,000 sign up to Telegraph letter

Over 1,000 dental professionals have signed a letter drafted by GDPUK member, Tony Kilcoyne, which appeared in the Daily Telegraph on January 2, 2017. It says that the NHS dental system in England has ‘catastrophically’ failed the public and calls for it to be removed out of ‘politicians’ incompetent hands’ completely.

This is the fourth year that dental professionals have written to the Daily Telegraph and in increasing numbers. They say the the NHS dental system in England is not only ‘catastrophically’ failing the public but is worsening every year.

They refer to increasingly frequent hospitalisation of children with rotten teeth, expansion of dental charities providing emergency dental care in England, and the failure of dental NHS111.

They say that the current NHS dental system is ‘limited centrally’ and cannot properly provide even basic services for half the population each year. The signatories say it is time to stop tolerating excuses.

Text of letter:
SIR – As dental professionals, we are writing to whistleblow about the NHS dental system in England, which is catastrophically failing the public, and worsening every year.

We believe it is now so bad that it should be removed from politicians’ incompetent hands completely.

The incompetence is reflected by the increasingly frequent hospitalisation of children with rotten teeth, the expansion of dental charities providing emergency dental care in England, and the failure of dental NHS 111, as recently reported on ITV Good Morning Britain – all compounded by watered-down obesity and sugar-tax policies.

The current NHS dental system is limited centrally and cannot properly provide even basic services for half the population each year.

It’s time to stop tolerating excuses and start preventing like we mean it.
