Dentists march in Paris

Dentists marched on Friday, March 3, to the Department of Health, 7e arrondissement of Paris, to protest against a reform of their rates, a month after the failed negotiations between their unions and health insurance. Professionals and students demonstrated to denounce an imposed cap on tariffs of prostheses.

Since 1975 a convention has been negotiated, allowing patients to be reimbursed in part for their dental care. The current agreement dates from 2006 and negotiations to amend it started in September 2016 on a new rider. The proposed change was to increase fees for preventive care and simple restorative work, while imposing a freeze on so called ‘prostheses ie those treatments requiring laboratory work.

On 27 January, the three representative trade unions refused to sign a new agreement and on 1 February a decision was made to impose the scheme. As a result of this a nation-wide strike was called for 3 March.
