The Faculty of General Dental Practice UK (FGDP) has announced the membership of a ‘Transition Board’ as it works to establish an independent College for general dental practice. It is chaired by Prof Nairn Wilson and members are Kevin Lewis, Duncan Rudkin, formerly of the GDC, Neil Sawbridge, a former chief financial officer and Dr Mick Horton, Dean of FGDP.
The board is chaired by Professor Nairn Wilson CBE, Emeritus Professor of Dentistry at King’s College London, a Past President of the British Dental Association, former Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Past President of the General Dental Council, and former Editor of both the Journal of Dentistry and the Faculty’s Journal.
Joining Professor Wilson will be Kevin Lewis, Consultant Editor for Dentistry magazine and former Dental Director at Dental Protection; Duncan Rudkin, Chief Executive of the General Pharmaceutical Council and former Chief Executive of the General Dental Council; Neil Sawbridge, a former Chief Financial Officer of an American banking group; and Dr Mick Horton, Dean of FGDP(UK).
Dr Horton says the new organisation will aim “to provide a collegiate home and professional standing for general dental practitioners and all members of the general dental team”, and the new board will work with the current FGDP(UK) Board, the RCS and the FDS with the aim of testing and completing the changes required to establish the new College.
