The 67th Annual Conference of Local Dental Committees opens in Belfast today, the first time it has been held outside England. Chair, Joe Hendron, told GDPUK: “It promises to be a great Conference. I have tried make it more representative of the whole profession and I look forward to welcoming more female delegates and many younger faces.”
At the centre of conference are the motions proposed by LDCs and today these will cover workforce and recruitment concerns, contract reform and public health issues.
‘Prevention is for everyone’ is the theme of a talk by Stephen Fayle, a consultant in paediatric dentistry at Leeds and past president of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD). It will be followed by a ‘Question Time’ session featuring Stephen Fayle and Colette Bridgman, CDO Wales who was involved at the inception of the Pilot Programme when prevention was top of the agenda. They will be joined by Eric Rooney, Deputy CDO England, who has recently published his Evaluation Report on the first year of Prototyping which makes interesting reading.
Claudia Peace, who works for a Prototype practice and sits on the National Steering Group for contract reform, will be able to give an insight from the dental associate’s point of view. Finally, Henrik Overgaard-Nielsen will inform us of the challenges faced by our negotiators. games-monitoring.com
Helping chair the proceedings will be Chair-elect Vijay Sudra, who takes over at the end of the Conference as Chair for 2019, when the event will be held in Birmingham..
Platinum Conference Sponsors are SimplyHealth Professionals and the Gold Sponsor is Dental Elite.
