Dentists and economists earn the most money from their university degree, new data has suggested. Analysis from the Office for National Statistics says such professions can expect a median salary of between £37,900 and £47,300 within five years of leaving university.
However, those who take on law expecting to earn big money may be left a little out of pocket as their average salaries only reach £25,200. At the lowest end are those with creative arts and design degrees, who get a yearly income of just £20,200.
With the average UK salary now at £27,600, the data reveals there are plenty of degrees that will leave graduates earning well below that, even five years after leaving university.
Out of 20 popular degrees analysed, 60 per cent resulted in salaries below the UK average. After dentistry and economics, the next highest earners were veterinary science (£34,900), mathematics (£33,100) and engineering and technology (£32,600).
The data was analysed by Propillo mortgage brokers.
