On the May 24 there will be a social media dentistry campaign on Twitter and Instagram (@UKDentistry24) to share the good work of the dental profession. The aim is to Thank, Celebrate, Share and Collaborate all things dental profession related and includes everyone from dentists, technicians, nurses, therapists, hygienists, researchers, receptionists, anyone working in healthcare.
It’s an opportunity to thank teams and show appreciation to the work we do every day, including what is happening now during Covid-19. While the profession is forced in to its own lock down, we are still providing a AAA service, with urgent dental care hubs massively under pressure to deliver care, in addition to dental teams being redeployed within dentistry and wider system – including caring for the oral health of patients in ITU wards and other the health care settings. The profession is also producing its own dental public health messages and material for patients , which needs support and sharing.
The focus this year is on Sharing - sharing team stories, how the profession is collaborating with each other and the wider health care service to support covid19 in addition to messages of appreciation across the healthcare sector and connnect to the global dental network. The message of unity and solidarity is important as we move forward to plan how we re-open services.
All they ask tweeters and instagrammers to do is post a positive message, picture of their team or a piece of learning and include 'Supporting #Dentistry24 ( insert message here)'.
Brief History:
#Dentistry24 started in 2018 by colleagues who were frustrated at the lack of appreciation for dentistry within the public domain and and wanted to encourage positivity and good news stories within the profession. The BDA has shown support as they are also trying to improve the image of dentistry and have helped promote the campaign in previous years.
The first campaign in 2018 generated 2 million twitter impressions and was predominantly UK and Ireland based. https://bda.org/news-centre/blog/Pages/How-it-happened-dentistry24.aspx
In 2019 , we had wider coverage through NHS social media support and saw tweets coming in from across Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia, we hit 16million last year.
#Dentistry24 is a voluntary social media campaign. It is not political in any way shape or form and is not run by any organisation. Its main aim is to promote dentistry in a positive light and show appreciation to our fellow colleagues and teams and share ideas, research, learning and opportunity.
