Fowl Play At Dental Practice

Fowl Play At Dental Practice

Generally,  you can reason with disgruntled dental patients. But angry turkeys are a different ball game altogether.

The Sacramento Bee news website reported that a large turkey smashed its way into a dental practice in Fair Oaks, California.

The turkey smashed through a window and got into the waiting room of an oral surgery specialist practice, causing a mess and frightening the practice manager, who was alone in the building.

Practice manager Donna McDonald told The Bee “I guess it’s mating season, and she doesn’t want to.”

McDonald says a dozen or so turkeys — “a gaggle, or whatever you’d call it” — hang out frequently on the greenbelt behind the practice, but that Wednesday’s visitor was one of the largest she’s seen.

The turkey reportedly broke in through dual-pane windows in the patient consultation area. The waiting room had no patients in it, at the time.

Ms McDonald called animal control, which redirected her to Gold Country Wildlife Rescue, and a woman came to evict the bird.

“There was no wrangling this bird as an amateur. The wildlife lady kind of struggled with it,” Ms McDonald said.

The rescue worker told the practice manager that  the turkey didn’t appear to be seriously hurt and it’ll be released back into the wild.

“It clawed up multiple walls to where we’re gonna have to repaint in there. Some of the glass that came in cut the dental chairs ... and we’ll need some deep cleaning.”
