NHS England has confirmed that effective from Friday 25th November, Band Two courses of treatment that include filling or extracting or non-molar endodontic procedures on three or more teeth will be awarded 5 UDAs whilst molar endodontics will attract 7 UDAs.
The improved UDA allocation, first sought by the profession as far back as 2007, formed part of the ’marginal contractual changes’ announced in July with more flesh being added to the bones of the announcement in October.
As well as additional UDAs to more fairly reward dentists for their time and expertise, a minimum UDA rate of £23 was announced together with a review of recall intervals.
Many in the profession were dismayed that having made the announcement, which some derided as ’too little, too late to save NHS dentistry’, no date was laid in stone for the improvements to commence.
According to the BDA website, "changes have already been made to the FP17 to record the information necessary to pay these additional UDAs. Courses of treatment will be allocated to the new sub-divisions of band two based on the clinical information submitted to the NHSBSA. Therefore, it is important that the information submitted is accurate and comprehensive to ensure that the correct UDA allocation is made.
