The Health & Social Care Committee Inquiry into NHS Dentistry hosted a ‘roundtable’ earlier in June, when it heard evidence from real or would-be patients who have been turned away from the service in their moment of need plus patient organisations.
Various branches of the ‘Toothless in England’ organisation, which is campaigning for there to be ‘an HNS dentist for everyone’ took part, as did Healthwatch and the National Network of Parent Carer Forums.
Unlike previous meetings of the Inquiry, which have been televised on Parliamentlive.tv with transcripts released a day or two later, the roundtable session was held ‘in camera’.
When GDPUK approached the Committee for a transcript we were told “the roundtable was an informal, private meeting, which is why it was not televised. There will be an anonymised summary note produced of the discussion, which will be submitted as evidence to the Committee and may be published as part of their final report.”
Toothless in England tweeted “The Inquiry heard testimony from Danielle Watts – whose story first reported by Toothless in Suffolk subsequently went global. Toothless in England took full advantage of the time available to make known our position and the need for the adoption of a patient-first approach to NHS dentistry provision.”
GDPUK will continue to monitor the Health & Social Care Committee’s Inquiry as it commences its descent towards the delivery of a final report and recommendations for reform.
