Alison Lockyer resigns GDC Chair

The General Dental Council has just announced that Alison Lockyer, has resigned from her role as Chair of the General Dental Council. Alison has also resigned her membership of the Council.
It is rumoured that a meeting had been called today to discuss her future and that she has pre-empted this by resigning. Alison Lockyer has just issued her own statement.


A statement has been issued by Alison Lockyer, Chair of the General Dental Council:

"It is with regret that I have decided to resign from my post as Chair of the General Dental Council, and also from my appointment on the GDC. “It would not be appropriate at the moment for me to go into detail about my reasons for resigning, suffice to say that, over the last few months, there have been issues that have caused me concern.

“I remain passionate about the importance of protecting the public through professional self regulation.”
