GDPUK has more exclusive news, gradually emerging from the mystery of the resignation of Dr Alison Lockyer from her role as Chair of the General Dental Council. Dr Lockyer has welcomed the news that the CHRE is to investigate the aspects of governance she raised.
After her resignation, Dr Lockyer wrote to the Health Secretary raising two specific areas of concern.
The first was about the relationship between the appointed Council and the Executive of the GDC and the way the dental profession is currently regulated. The second questioned the suitability of the GDC’s own internal procedures to deal with complaints made against one of its officers.
Dr Lockyer has been assured that these complaints will now be investigated by the CHRE . In welcoming this news, Dr Lockyer asked colleagues to understand that she is unable to make any further comment on this matter while the CHRE is undertaking its investigation.
