The British Dental Association (BDA) has issued advice to associates following its meeting with the Department of Health. The changes, coming into effect on 7 November, concern practices that were acquired via the partnership route. Associates working for corporates are advised by the BDA to discuss their situation with their central HR department as a matter of urgency.

The BDA is also urging the corporates (DBCs) to take the necessary steps to safeguard their associates’ pension rights and other NHS benefits. John Milne, Chair of the General Dental Practice Committee, said: "Every dentist working for the NHS deserves an NHS pension and it is essential that DBCs protect the dentists working for them. PCTs should cooperate with DBCs to facilitate the necessary changes".
Where a practice was acquired by the ‘partnership route’ its associates may be working for a second company, one that was sub-contracted to provide the services. In that case the associates may lose their NHS pension rights on November 7th.
