Liverpool dental practice warned by CQC

A Liverpool dental surgery has been warned to improve after inspectors found medication stored in a dirty fridge. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) told the practice in Aintree that it was not meeting “essential standards”. Inspectors visited the surgery after they had major concerns at the provider’s other dental practice in Congleton, Cheshire.

The surgery now faces a fine or the threat of having its registration removed if managers do not take action. The CQC found criminal record checks on staff had not been carried out and there was no evidence to show staff had been given first-aid training. Some medication was found stored in a dirty and stained fridge alongside food and drink.

The report found no evidence of “safeguarding” training, meaning vulnerable patients were not protected from harm. The fire exit route was also difficult to access, patient records were not stored securely and medication was not regularly checked or appropriately stored.

However CQC inspectors have now received an action plan from the surgery outlining how standards will improve. A further inspection is planned to check the progress.
