John Milne protests to Minister over seniority pay

John Milne, chairman of the General Dental Practice Committee, is writing to the health minister, Earl Howe, to express dentistsÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚Â¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚Â¢ anger at the removal of seniority pay for those reaching 55 from this April. He is seeking an urgent meeting to discuss possible solutions, stressing that dentists have contributed to the costs of seniority pay throughout their careers.

Check before you agree to clawback says NASDAL

Some dentists may be tempted to return the exact amount of clawback demanded by their Primary Care Trust (PCT). But National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers (NASDAL) member Johnny Minford strongly advises all dentists to check before they pay.

GKT appoints new dean

Dr Dianne Rekow, Senior Vice Provost of Engineering and Technology at New York University (NYU) and Provost of Polytechnic Institute of NYU, has been appointed as the next Dean of the GKT Dental Institute, KingÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚Â¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚Â¢s College has announced. She will succeed Professor Nairn Wilson, who is due to retire at the end of this year, and will take up the position from 1 January 2012.

Teenager habits revealed

British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF) is calling for teenagers to improve their oral hygiene, after a recent study revealed adolescents who smoke are more likely to abandon the basics, such as brushing their teeth twice a day. On the other hand a Government survey showed that consumption of sugar and confectionary among most age groups is declining.

BDA commissioning survey gives mixed results

Commissioning of NHS dental services is experiencing a turbulent period as it contends with structural change in the NHS, the launch of pilots for a new dental contract and pressures on funding. The BDA survey of PCTs reflects a shifting landscape for them, in which more than a quarter of those questioned said that their commissioning functions had merged with those of other PCTs.
