Dental out of hours responsibility of NHS England
Health Minister, Dr Daniel Poulter, has confirmed that responsibility for out-of-hours dental care is now the responsibility of NHS England, since the closing on PCTs on March 31. In London, calls are forwarded to a dental nurse triage service, which is available 10 pm on Monday to Friday and from 9 am to 10 pm at weekends and on bank holidays.

Dental Protection reports that the General Dental Council recently chose to demonstrate their awareness of the stress experienced by registrants under investigation by the Council. It is the GDC’s declared intention to address some of the serious issues that are contributing to the levels of stress; such as the long delay before a hearing can proceed, the length of time a hearing can last and the large number of individual allegations brought against a registrant.

BDTA Dental Showcase charity poll returns for 2013
Dental Showcase is re-launching the charity poll for 2013. Dentaid, British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF) and Bridge2Aid have again been chosen to receive up to £10,000. When on-line registrations reach 20,000, the BDTA will donate £5,000, shared out between the charities in accordance with your votes. When registrations reach 25,000 BDTA will add another £5,000.

The sales market of NHS dental practices in England has been thrown into chaos following the changes to the administration of primary dental care services, according to NASDAL lawyers who continue to finalise difficult deals against the odds. Louise Fegan of NASDAL law firm Morrisons Solicitors explained that in addition to the change in administration, further layers of bureaucracy had been added into the sales process.
