Plea to parents: minimise risk of children’s dental trauma during pandemic

Accidents can happen at any time and frequently do in childhood. But while some are inevitable, there are accidents that can and should be avoided, especially now, during the Covid-19 pandemic.The British Society of Paediatric Dentistry’s spokeswoman Claire Stevens is urging parents to make sure their young children do not take unnecessary risks.

Dentistry crisis in Republic of Ireland reported

A newspaper report from the Republic of Ireland tells of how the Covid-19 pandemic there has left dentists struggling to deliver any sort of service. The advent of Covid-19 means the options to do safe dentistry are severely limited. Since March, when the Government introduced restrictive measures, the Irish Dental Association has said that the vast majority of dental practices are limited to emergency treatment or had closed.

Dental nurse, Joanne Gauntlett, was found guilty at a GDC tribunal of four misconduct breaches, having verbally abused staff at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. She left staff in tears and scared to go to work including one she told ’social services will pick their child up from school’.
